Read the personal story from our founder on how the legacy of HH Wakahiu inspired the Humphrey Hiuhu Foundation to support single-parent households in Kenya.
When I think about my late father, HH Wakahiu, a flood of beautiful memories comes to mind. If I had to describe him in just a few words, they would be kindness, laughter, gentleness, humility, and—topping the list above all else—generosity.
It is mind-blowing to think that I only got 15 short years to know him. I miss him terribly, I loved him deeply, and I still do. Yet, I live with the beautiful hope that I will see him again one day.
In those precious fifteen years, I watched him live out his values every single day. I watched him fiercely support our family, extend unwavering kindness to absolute strangers, and, most importantly, intentionally love on us—his family. He showed me what it truly means to be a pillar of strength and compassion in a world that so desperately needs it.
Honoring a Legacy of Radical Generosity
His physical presence may be gone, but his life continues to speak. Because his impact left such an indelible mark on my heart, I chose to honor his legacy of generosity by founding the Humphrey Hiuhu Foundation.
This foundation is designed to capture the exact essence of what my daddy was all about: loving others in tangible ways. We don’t want to just talk about love; we want to be the hands and feet that deliver it. To keep his memory alive, I welcome each of you to join us in honoring this wonderful man by supporting the most vulnerable in our communities.
Turning Active Faith into Tangible Support
Our mission starts by serving those who face the heaviest burdens: children in single-parent households. We began this journey by stepping in to support the 20 incredible children living at Gladways Rescue Center (now known as Happy Mercy Center) in Kenya.
For me, this work is deeply rooted in our faith. I am constantly reminded of the powerful words found in James 2:15-17:
“What if a Christian does not have clothes or food? And one of you says to him, “Goodbye, keep yourself warm and eat well.” But if you do not give him what he needs, how does that help him? A faith that does not do things is a dead faith.”
We refuse to look at suffering and simply wish people well. We want to give them what they need. By providing consistent food, water, and educational opportunities, we are turning abstract faith into a living, breathing rescue line for these families.
Join Our Family of Supporters
The Humphrey Hiuhu Foundation is a direct extension of a father’s love passed down to a child, and now passed along to a community in need. But to keep this legacy moving forward, we need you.
Whether you partner with us financially to fund our programs, share our mission with your own community, or hold us up in your prayers, you are helping us love others in tangible ways. Let’s make sure that lives like HH Wakahiu’s continue to speak for generations to come.
Thank you for walking this journey with us.
